춘천시 (Chuncheon) : Work Retreat

We went on a work retreat Friday and Saturday to Chuncheon, the capitol of the Gangwon Province. I had no idea what to expect of the town or hanging out for a night and day with my co-workers but we had a BLAST. We arrived by train around 10:30pm, Jenny and Kelvin made incredible BBQ. After dinner all the female teachers except Jenny, Julie and I went upstairs to go to sleep. We stayed outside drinking for a few hours - it was the first very cold night since I've been in Korea. I was given my Korean name by Julie and Kelvin - 이 화 현 (E Hwa Hyeon) which means "Genius Flower" (yeah, I'll take that).

Around 1am we decided to buy fireworks at the convenience store next to our pension and then Kelvin proceded to go upstairs and wake up all the girls. We aren't sure what he told them to motivate them but within 2 minutes of going into the room they were all giggling and on their feet and we played some hilarious games (one was akin to Marco Polo but instead of saying Marco, "it" walks around blindfolded with an empty plastic beer bottle and tries to whack people). We lit the fireworks, laughed a lot and hit the sack/floor, whatever.

We woke up the next morning, ate delicious ramyen and clementines and went out for a great bike ride. Chuncheon is beautiful as all the leaves are changing and there are many mountains. Apparently it's the place all college students go for "MTV Spring Break" ha. We got to Gogok Falls, a nature reserve with a huge waterfall. When the waterfall freezes in the winter you can go ice climbing on it. Sweet.

After the park we ate "dak galbi" - Chuncheon is famous for this spicy chicken dish with cabbage, sweet potato, scallions and tteok (rice cakes). Yum. It was a great trip. And then there was Halloween....
